Eligibility
•Non-Korean citizenship: Both the applicant and the applicant's parents must be foreign nationals (non-Korean citizens).
•Master's or Integrated M.S./Ph.D. program applicants: Must hold or expect to obtain a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent recognized qualification) before enrollment.
•Ph.D. program applicants: Must hold or expect to obtain a Master's degree (or equivalent recognized qualification) before enrollment.
•English Language Proficiency: Must submit valid official English test scores (TOEFL iBT 80 or higher, IELTS 6.5 or higher, TOEIC 750 or higher, or TEPS 600 / New TEPS 327 or higher), unless exempt by having completed an undergraduate or graduate degree entirely in English in an English-speaking country.
•Academic excellence and strong research background in relevant science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields.
Details
The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) offers fully funded graduate admissions and scholarships for international students pursuing Master of Science (M.S.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Integrated M.S./Ph.D. degrees. GIST is a leading research-focused institute established by the South Korean government to foster world-class scientific and technological talents. All admitted international students receive full financial assistance covering tuition, living expenses, research assistantships, and relocation support.
Financial Benefits
•Full Tuition Waiver: 100% of tuition supported (3,415,000 KRW per semester) for all admitted international students.
•Monthly Student Allowance: 140,000 KRW per month for M.S. students and 295,000 KRW per month for Ph.D. students.
•Research Assistantship: Average of approximately 5,461,249 KRW per year for M.S. students and 12,513,688 KRW per year for Ph.D. students participating in departmental research projects.
•Flight Reimbursement: Full one-way economy-class airfare to South Korea for newly matriculated international students.
•Health Insurance Support: Approximately 60% of the Korean National Health Insurance fee is subsidized.
•Subsidized on-campus dormitory accommodation provided for graduate students.
