Eligibility
•Be currently enrolled in a PhD or Master's degree program in macroeconomics, international economics, financial economics, public finance, econometrics, or a closely related field
•PhD students must be within 1 to 2 years of completing their doctorate at the time of the internship
•Master's students must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application and during the internship
•Demonstrate outstanding academic performance and strong research capabilities
•Possess an excellent command of written and oral English
•Under 32 years of age at the start of the internship (for PhD candidates)
Details
The Fund Internship Program (FIP) offers highly promising doctoral and graduate economics students from around the world an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the work of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Interns work alongside experienced IMF economists at the Fund's headquarters in Washington, D.C. on a well-defined research project relevant to the IMF's operational and policy priorities. The internship typically takes place during the summer for a duration of 10 to 12 weeks between June and October.
Projects typically cover areas such as macroeconomic stability, monetary policy, fiscal policy, debt sustainability, exchange rate dynamics, financial markets, or international trade. Interns present their research findings to Fund economists and leadership at the conclusion of the program.
