•Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the retreat

•Must demonstrate financial need and be unable to attend the retreat without financial support

•Open to writers of all nationalities from anywhere in the world

•Open to both emerging and published writers working in any genre (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.)

•Must possess a high level of proficiency in written and spoken English, as all workshops are conducted in English

•Past recipients of the Iceland Writers Retreat Alumni Award are not eligible to apply

The Iceland Writers Retreat Alumni Award was established to help talented writers who would not otherwise have the financial means to attend the retreat. Held annually in Reykjavik, Iceland, the retreat brings together writers from around the globe for an immersive literary experience. Participants take part in small-group writing workshops led by acclaimed international authors, attend panel presentations, and enjoy social and cultural excursions exploring Iceland's celebrated storytelling heritage and landscapes.

•Full retreat participation package covering all writing workshops and craft sessions

•Admission to all author readings, panel discussions, and literary receptions

•Four nights of hotel accommodation at the retreat venue in Reykjavik (for full award recipients)

•Round-trip airfare to and from Iceland (for full award recipients)

•Partial awards are also granted, covering the retreat package and workshop registration fees
