Details
The Schmidt Science Fellows program, in partnership with the Rhodes Trust, aims to develop the next generation of scientific leaders and equip them with the interdisciplinary skills and perspectives to tackle the world's most pressing problems. Fellows undertake a postdoctoral research placement in a discipline different from their PhD, fostering a broad scientific outlook. The program includes tailored scientific and leadership programming. Nominations typically open in July and close in September for the following year's cohort (e.g., 2027 cohort).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be nominated by a designated nominating institution (their PhD university). Must have completed or expect to complete their PhD in a natural science, engineering, mathematics, or computer sciences field between 12 months prior to and 12 months after the application deadline. Open to all nationalities. Demonstrated scientific curiosity, leadership potential, and a commitment to interdisciplinary research are key. Applicants from African countries are eligible.
Financial Benefits
Fully funded, providing a stipend of $100,000 per year for the duration of the fellowship (typically 12-15 months). This funding supports living expenses, research costs, and travel related to the fellowship. Additional support for program events and mentorship is also provided.
