The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is an international leadership development and undergraduate scholarship program designed to support orphaned students from Sub-Saharan Africa. The program aims to empower young leaders to pursue higher education at top universities globally (including in Japan, Europe, the UK, and the USA) and return to Sub-Saharan Africa to contribute to the region's socio-economic development.
In addition to full financial coverage for undergraduate studies, selected scholars participate in a pre-university preparation camp (Study Camp) focusing on university applications, language preparation, and leadership development.
Eligibility Criteria
•Have lost one or both parents (is an orphan)
•Be a citizen and resident of an eligible Sub-Saharan African country
•Have completed secondary school/high school and possess official national examination results
•Be 22 years of age or younger at the time of application
•Demonstrate strong academic performance and financial need
•Be fluent in English, French, or Portuguese
•Express a clear commitment to return to Sub-Saharan Africa after graduation to contribute to local development
•Have no direct dependents who would accompany the student
