Details

The University of British Columbia (UBC) dedicates over $30 million annually to financial support for international undergraduate students through merit-based and need-based awards. The International Scholars Program offers prestigious need-and-merit-based awards for exceptional global leaders, while merit-based entrance scholarships like the International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES) and Outstanding International Student (OIS) award automatically evaluate candidates upon application to UBC.

Eligibility Criteria

Must be an international student entering an undergraduate degree program at UBC directly from high school or secondary school
Must hold a Canadian study permit (international applicant status)
Must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and strong leadership skills
For International Scholars Program (e.g., Karen McKellin & Donald A. Wehrung awards): Must be nominated by your high school and demonstrate financial need that would otherwise prevent studying at UBC
Must meet UBC's English Language Admission Standard and program-specific academic requirements

Financial Benefits

Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award: Up to full funding covering tuition, fees, and living expenses based on financial need, renewable for up to 3 additional years of undergraduate study
Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award: Up to full tuition and living expenses for outstanding students from war-torn, politically unstable, or economically disadvantaged regions
International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES): Up to $40,000 CAD total ($10,000 CAD per year over four years)
Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award: One-time merit-based award ranging from $2,000 to $25,000 CAD upon admission
