Details
The RIKEN International Program Associate (IPA) program offers young, promising researchers from abroad the opportunity to carry out their PhD research at RIKEN, Japan's largest comprehensive research institution. IPAs are expected to contribute to RIKEN's research activities while pursuing their doctoral degrees.
Applications for the 2027 intake typically open in September and close in November.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a non-Japanese national.
- Be enrolled in a PhD course at a graduate school in a country other than Japan.
- Be able to pursue their PhD research at RIKEN under the supervision of a RIKEN scientist.
- Have a good command of English.
Open to international students from all countries, including African nations.
Financial Benefits
IPAs receive a monthly stipend (e.g., JPY 170,000), a housing allowance, and a commuting allowance. RIKEN also covers the cost of a round-trip air ticket.
