Eligibility
•Be a citizen of an eligible country in Europe (such as Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, or Ukraine)
•Return to your country of citizenship following the completion of the fellowship
•Hold a postgraduate degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field
•Be a mid-career professional with significant work experience (typically 7 to 10+ years) in defence, national security, foreign policy, law enforcement, or strategic affairs
•Be currently employed in government, armed forces, public sector institutions, think tanks, or civil society dealing with defence and security issues
•Demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to driving positive reform and international cooperation
•Meet the required standard of English language proficiency
•Not hold British or dual British citizenship
•Not be an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee of His Majesty's Government or Chevening partner organisations within the past two years
Details
The Chevening Europe Defence and Security Fellowship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and delivered at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in partnership with Cranfield University.
This specialized fellowship is tailored for mid-career professionals from selected European countries working in national security, international relations, strategy, and defence policy. Fellows participate in an intensive course covering contemporary international security challenges, strategic decision-making, cyber defence, hybrid threats, conflict resolution, and modern defence management.
The programme also offers site visits, professional engagement with UK government departments, think tanks, and armed forces personnel, as well as exceptional networking opportunities with international peers.
